Master's Capstone Project

Identifying Disadvantaged Communities Using Cumulative Environmental Burden January 2025 – June 2025
  • Role: Lead Data Analyst and Developer   Client: Dr. Jayajit Chakraborty
  • Conducted spatial statistical analysis to identify areas of high cumulative environmental burden using over 30 environmental and socio-economic indicators.
  • Improved existing geospatial mapping tool to visualize new results, including back-end data pipeline modification in Python and front-end client navigation in TypeScript and React.

UCSB Blum Center - Data & Communications Consultant September 2024 – Present
  • Supervisor: Kashia Arnold, Ph.D.
  • Manage a data repository for the Central Coast Regional Equity Initiative: a diverse dataset of socio-economic data related to demographics, basic needs, civic connectedness, vulnerable households, and more.
  • Data visualization, website design and content management for the initiative's online data center.
  • Maintain communications and establish connections with regional organizers working on equity issues.
National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis - Data Analyst, Ocean Health Index May 2025 – October 2025
  • Supervisors: Melanie Frazier, Ph.D. and Ben Halpern, Ph.D.
  • Collaborated with a diverse team of data scientists using open science methods to synthesize 40+ data sources into an overall metric of ocean health, evaluated over 10 goals.
  • Created and managed data pipelines in R and Python that extract, transform, and load geospatial and tabular data for score calculation.
  • Developed visualizations, blog posts, and interactive reports to share findings with a public audience.
UCSB Department of Probability and Statistics - Teaching Assistant September 2024 – June 2025

  • Led sections and coding-based labs for introductory statistics for life sciences students, including both in-person and virtual meetings.

  • Assisted with projects examining plant water relations in coast live oaks and species distribution, including the influence of temperature on the growth of fine roots and mycorrhizae.
  • Prepared solid and liquid samples for various types of isotope analysis via mass spectroscopy and cryogenic water and leaf sugar extraction.

Research Experience

Brashares Wildlife Ecology Lab, UC Berkeley - Research Assistant February 2020 – June 2023
  • Advisor: Kendall Calhoun, Ph.D.
  • Examined the effects of fire severity on biodiversity after a mega-fire in Mendocino County, CA, using a network of camera traps and audio monitors.
  • Conducted data collection and analysis, including using the deep neural network BirdNet to identify species and created an occupancy model to map species presence before and after the fire.
UC Berkeley, ESPM - Senior Thesis August 2020 – May 2021
  • Advisor: Patina Mendez, Ph.D.
  • Thesis: It's not just for the Birds: Community Science Participation during COVID-19.
  • Examined trends in citizen science participation across urban and non-urban landscapes during the COVID-19 pandemic using the open data source eBird.
  • Presented findings on observation trends and accessibility in community science participation at the ESPM departmental research symposium with honors.
Monteverde Institute, Costa Rica - Directed Research September 2019 – December 2019
  • Advisor: Frank Joyce, Ph.D.
  • Examined levels of aquatic microplastic pollution across a gradient of human influence near a marine protected area in Cuajiniquil, Costa Rica.
  • Presented results at a community forum and participated in a discussion on strategies to reduce plastic pollution in the local mangrove estuary system.
